Just days before the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, The Left Party (after the Social Democrats voted to enter a coalition with them), widely seen as the successor to East Germany's communist party, is expected to control the government in the state of Thuringia for the first time since reunification.
Leadership of the Left Party's were senior communist figures, which ruled East Germany as a single-party state.
Angela Merkel, who grew up in the GDR, has said a government headed by the Left Party would be "bad news" for Thuringia, which is the birthplace of the composer Bach and home to the city of Weimar, where Goethe and Schiller worked.
To be fair, people in this part of former communist East Germany were too ingrained in the old system to adapt to free markets and capitalism and reap all the benefits that flow from it. So, they are more comfortable with long lines and no toilet paper.
szczęśliwy komunizm, wy wszyscy
