What has American society come to when a 13 year old boy is charged with assault for giving a 14 year old girl a kiss. In Pikesville, Maryland the boy was charged with second-degree assault for kissing a 14-year-old girl on a dare at the local Middle School.

According to WBFF- TV Baltimore:

School officials took a report regarding a 13-year-old boy who kissed a 14-year-old girl during school hours. The unwanted kiss was allegedly the result of a dare made by students.

Police confirm that the boy is now facing a second-degree assault charge as a juvenile. No one was injured during the incident, police say, and disciplinary actions related to suspension or expulsion will be handled by the school system.

No one was injured. Is that really surprising?

While every 14-year-old has the right not to be kissed, the punishment is absurd.  Some discipline should be administered, but he ought not be charged with assault. Children of that age do stupid stuff.  When the consequences of their actions are as minor as this, it's better to reprimand them in a manner that does not involve the criminal justice system.







Crossing a border illegally is a crime now going unpunished both in the U.S. and EU. A stolen kiss is nothing in comparison.

However, there’s one group of young eaters in Rio Rancho, New Mexico who like Michelle Obama’s school lunch program: pigs.

According to EGAnews.com New Mexico’s Galloping Grace Youth Ranch is accepting fruits and vegetables thrown away by students at several elementary schools in the Rio Rancho area and collects some five tons per week.

“It’s really whatever they don’t eat coming off of their trays, so when they get up to the trash cans they will scrape it into one of our buckets that we pick up on a daily basis,” says ranch CEO Max Wade.

Earlier this year, a New York district estimated its students throw away 85 percent of their fruits and vegetables.

American schools spend an estimated $3.5 million per day on food that ends up in the garbage can.

Interestingly, the Rio Rancho “healthy” school lunch repurposing program isn’t unique.

The Nebraska Farmers Union was working to partner with Lincoln-area schools to collect discarded food to fuel a worm farm, known as vermiculture.

“Composting gives them more hands-on experience. They can see how their waste is going to be turned into a useful product rather than going into a landfill,” says Brittney Albin, interim recycling coordinator at Lincoln Public Schools.

She says she isn’t sure how much of the 11,600 pounds of food waste per month come from the cafeteria.

“However, food waste does make up a large portion of the school waste, so we would expect the vermicomposting program to make a big dent in that number,” Albin tells the Journal Star newspaper.

Some 3,000 pigs at a Rhode Island hog farm scarf up uneaten fruits and vegetables, too.

The pigs are enjoying “half-eaten tuna sandwiches and other food scraps students discard during their lunch periods” as part of a new recycling program established by the town of Cumberland, according to WoonsocketCall.com.

Two Rhode Island districts – North Smithfield and Burrillville – that are sending their scraps to My Blue Heaven Farm. Both districts are participants in the National School Lunch Program, which is implementing the hated federal lunch rules.

Agence France-Presse reports - An exiled Iranian opposition group Tuesday accused Tehran of running a "secret" uranium enrichment site close to Tehran, which it said violated ongoing talks with global powers on a nuclear deal.

"Despite the Iranian regime's claims that all of its enrichment activities are transparent ... it has in fact been engaged in research and development with advanced centrifuges at a secret nuclear site called Lavizan-3," said Alireza Jafarzadeh, deputy director of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

He said the site was hidden in a military base in the northeastern suburbs of Tehran.

Recently, federal class-action lawsuits were filed against the cities of Jennings and Ferguson, Missouri alleging that their jails there operate as modern-day debtors’ prisons.

The suits filed in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on behalf of 15 plaintiffs — referred to as “impoverished people” — who were jailed because they could not pay fines for traffic violations and other minor offenses.

“They were threatened, abused and left to languish in confinement at the mercy of local officials until their frightened family members could produce enough cash to buy their freedom or until city jail officials decided, days or weeks later, to let them out for free,” the complaint states.

The suits were filed on behalf of the plaintiffs by the non-profit legal organization Equal Justice Under Law, based in Washington, and the ArchCity Defenders, a local non-profit group; and by St. Louis University School of Law.
